EARLY VAIL INTERNATIONAL DANCE FESTIVAL TICKET SALES EXHIBIT BROAD CROSS SECTION OF NATIONAL INTEREST

     VAIL, Colorado—Based on the first two weeks of ticket sales for the 2009 Vail International Dance Festival, the Vail Valley will see a significant influx of visitors from around the nation during the July 27-August 11 Festival season.

     With two weeks of sales in the books as of March 2, the Dance Festival is not only strongly outpacing sales from the 2008 record season, but reports also show ticket purchasers from 21 different states, confirming the Festival’s power as a strong driver for tourism to the Vail Valley.

     While Colorado tops the list in terms of tickets sold, a strong majority of those buyers are Denver area residents. Other states with sizeable purchases include Florida, Texas, California and New York.

     The 2008 season sold-out almost every performance, and Festival organizers are cautiously optimistic based on the early sales that this year will build on the prior year’s success, despite the challenging economic atmosphere.

     One of the foremost summer dance celebrations in the world, the 2009 Vail International Dance Festival will be highlighted by the return of tap superstar Savion Glover, and the third annual residency of Christopher Wheeldon and Morphoses/The Wheeldon Company. The season will also include favorites such as the International Evenings of Dance featuring stars from around the world, Ballroom’s Best, and the sophomore season of the popularly priced Dance for $20.09 mixed bill performance.

      New to the Dance Festival in 2009 will be several performances featuring the internationally acclaimed Miami City Ballet, marking the newest installment of major ballet company residencies that began in 2007 with the Pacific Northwest Ballet.
