BeijingDance / LDTX at the 2010 Vail International Dance Festival

BeijingDance / LDTX’s BIO:
BeijingDance / LDTX stands for Lei Dong Tian Xia, which translates literally to “thunder rumbles under heaven.” The birth of BeijingDance / LDTX in September of 2005 not only caught widespread international attention, but also captured the imagination of many artists in China. The company was born during a controversial and exciting time of rapid cultural change in that country and is China’s first professional dance company to be founded independently of the government. BeijingDance / LDTX is a platform for contemporary creations. Under the artistic direction of Willy Tsao, China’s foremost figure in modern dance, and Deputy Artistic Director Li Hanshong, the company boasts a diverse repertoire and an ensemble of technically exquisite dancers. Based in China’s capital, BeijingDance / LDTX serves as both a leader and a catalyst for both modern and contemporary dance and the dance appreciation movement.

In June 2009, the company founded LDTX II in order to further nurture young talent.  By presenting new choreographers and providing platforms for developing artists, BeijingDance / LDTX pioneers China’s most cutting edge choreography.

BeijingDance / LDTX will makes its Vail debut in a program featuring their unique version of the Rite of Spring and a world premiere by internationally-renowned choreographer Sang Jijia.
