LARRY KEIGWIN - 2010 ARTIST IN RESIDENCE

ABOUT LARRY KEIGWIN:
Critically-acclaimed dancer and choreographer Larry Keigwin returns to the Vail International Dance Festival in 2010 as the Artist in Residence, in which role he will both perform and create works in Vail, presenting a world premiere as part of the International Evenings of Dance showcase.

Larry Keigwin’s prolific and wide-ranging dance career began the day he auditioned as a back-up dancer for Downtown Julie Brown on Club MTV (he got the gig).  He continued his dance career working for Chezzam! enlivening many a bar and bat mitzvah while earning his BA in dance from Hofstra University.  In addition to Larry's choreographic work with K+C, his recent commissions have included The New York City Ballet's Choreographic Institute, The Martha Graham Dance Company, The Juilliard Dance Ensemble, The NYU/Tisch School's Second Avenue Dance Company, Paradigm, Hofstra University and California Institute of the Arts.  His other choreographic credits include work with the pop band Fischerspooner, comedian Murray Hill and as an Associate Choreographer for both the The Radio City Rockettes and the Off-Broadway musical "The Wild Party".  As a dancer Larry has danced at the Metropolitan Opera in Doug Varone's "Le Sacre Du Printemps" and Julie Taymor's "The Magic Flute" in addition to his work with Mark Dendy (receiving a Bessie Award in 1998 for his performance in "Dream Analysis"), Robin Becker, Jane Comfort, John Jasperse, Doug Elkins, Zvi Gotheiner, and David Rousseve.  He appeared in the Broadway bomb "Dance of the Vampires" and the Julie Taymor, Oscar nominated film "Across the Universe."  In his spare time, Larry has created "Keigwin Kabaret," a fusion of modern dance, vaudeville, and burlesque acts presented by the Public Theater at Joe's Pub and by Symphony Space.

ABOUT HIS COMPANY:
KEIGWIN + COMPANY was established in 2003 with its premiere performance at Joyce SoHo, New York, made possible by the generous support of friends.  Since then the company has performed throughout the City in such venues as Skirball Center for the Performing Arts at NYU, New York City Center, Lincoln Center Out of Doors, The Duke Theater on 42nd Street, Symphony Space and NYU/Tisch School of the Arts. Nationally, Keigwin + Company has been presented by the Vail International Dance Festival in 2008, the American Dance Festival, the Bates Dance Festival, Summerdance Santa Barbara, Dancing in the Streets, Jacob's Pillow, the Kaatsbaan International Dance Center and DRA's Fire Island Dance Festival. K + C has received grants and generous support from The Greenwall Foundation, New York Foundation for the Arts, The Christian Keesee Charitable Trust, Dianne & Daniel Vapnek Family Fund, Ella Foshay and Royce Family Funds. Tour Support has been provided by Expeditions, a program of the New England Foundation for the Arts (NEFA), and the National Performance Network (NPN).  KEIGWIN + COMPANY is committed to creating work that is accessible and entertaining while remaining innovative and intelligent.
