| ABOUT BROADWAY, BALLET & BEYOND:
Company-in-residence Pacific Northwest Ballet presents a second program featuring a thrilling variety of dance including Twyla Tharp’s spectacular Nine Sinatra Songs, "Cool" from Jerome Robbins' West Side Story, George Balanchine's Duo Concertante and Christopher Wheeldon's After the Rain pas de deux. "Tharp's now-classic Nine Sinatra Songs was the finale, a pageant of Oscar de la Renta dresses and tuxedos with a giant disco ball spinning overhead - on one level, like the best episode of 'Dancing with the Stars' ever. On the other, the collection reminded us strongly of Goya's Capriccios - here, distillations of romantic interaction in the language of tango, flamenco, even exhibition disco." - Michael van Baker, Seattlest
| CELEBRATE THE BEAT:
The opening act for Broadway, Ballet & Beyond will feature a special performance by the Vail Valley’s Celebrate The Beat (CTB) dancers. The CTB performance will feature dance and movement to classical Broadway tunes from Oliver, The Wiz, West Side Story and Chorus Line. The Vail Valley Foundation’s CTB program works with local children to elicit a personal standard of excellence by using dance as the medium to teach participants that energy, discipline, hard work, commitment and joyful concentration can lead to success. CTB was founded in 2000 by Tracy Straus, is inspired by the techniques of the award-winning National Dance Institute (NDI). Straus began mastering the NDI method under founder, Jacques d’Amboise teaching in public schools throughout New York City. All CTB Teaching Artists are professional dancers, choreographers, musicians and composers, all of whom believe that the arts should be an integral part of every child's education.
